STEPHANIE A. LINDQUIST
1987, Los Angeles, CA, USA
Inspired by historical and botanical research of indigenous food plants from Africa and beyond, Stephanie A. Lindquist examines ideas around sustainability, natural farming and dieting proposed by farmer-philosopher Masanobu Fukuoka, Kenyan agricultural scientist Mary Abukutsa-Onyango and Potawatomi scientist Robin Kimmerer. The artist’s ongoing series Founded simultaneously points to a complex underbelly that has prioritized cash crops over biodiversity. As many of us have lost a spiritual relationship to the natural world, Lindquist promotes often-overlooked plants and their indigenous cultures in the belief that their cultivation and consumption will contribute to increased reciprocity between humans and nature globally.
Daughter of Liberian-American mother, Lindquist received her BA from Columbia University. Her work has been exhibited at Google, the New York Public Library, the Allen Hospital, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, El Museo del Barrio, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, The New Museum, and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.
