Báez’s practice creates visual representations featuring Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latinx women that put their narratives forward. She received an M.F.A. from Hunter College and a B.F.A. from The Cooper Union’s School of Art. Báez has had solo exhibitions at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City, UT, Pérez Art Museum Miami, FL, The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburg, PA, and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, among others. Her current solo exhibition is on display at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York. The exhibition – Firelei Báez: Joy Out of Fire – is an inHarlem project presented by The Studio Museum in Harlem in partnership with the Schomburg Center. Báez will also be featured in the 2018 Berlin Biennale.
